His New Mac Will Be…
Shawn Blanc has recently posted an unvoluntary follow-up to my aptly named “Why My Next Computer Will Be a MacBook Air”.
He didn’t go through the length of discussing his every reasons like I did, though he concludes similarly:
The 13-inch MacBook Air has everything I do need, nothing that I don’t, and even a few additional features such as being light weight and having a thinner form factor. Which means that for me, going from a 15-inch MacBook Pro to a 13-inch MacBook Air will be an upgrade.
Since I’ve received a real follow-up on the matter — thanks, Philip! —, I’d like to add a few things:
- my two hard drives failed on me last month and I’ve thus switched to an OWC SSD. Although it isn’t of the last generation, it is still unbelievably faster than my previous drives; many have said that switching to an SSD is like getting a new, faster computer: I agree
- the new iMac has been unveiled since my post, and it’s a bafflingly fast computer, almost as powerful as the Mac Pro. With its i5 and i7 chips, and a slew of Thunderbolt ports, it is rumored the MacBook Air will benefit from the new architecture as well
a) means that I won’t be updating in a while since my fellow MacBook is performing fast enough now, and b) means that it is wiser to wait until the MacBook Air sees its next revision, and hopefully the arrival of the mighty Sandy Bridge.
