On iPhone Home Screen Organization, Targets and the Opposable Human Thumb
Stephen Hackett, in a follow-up of Ben Brooks’ piece from last week, Homescreen Organization Methodology, says:
I place my most-used applications in the center of the screen, with less vital ones further out.
That is exactly what I do, though with a different result. Here is the target area of my thumb on screen1. As you see, my thumb does much less movement overall, yet the easiest spots are still in the top center of the screen.
(I might need to revamp my homescreen anyway, as I have put certain things on hold2.)
One final note: I cannot, for god’s sake, see how Ben finds the left uppermost icon to be one of the easiest to reach. He must have freaky, gigantic thumbs.
