Twitter to Introduce Promoted Tweets in Stream
MG Siegler reports on TechCrunch that Twitter intends to launch its promoted tweets on its website as well as on third-party clients.
Moreover, in contrary to what they earlier stated, ads will display whether or not the promoting brand is followed by the user.
What I’m seeing is that Twitter, akin Google, has transformed its users into its product; we are the product being sold to Twitter’s customers, the advertisers.
The most shocking thing in the whole story is that Dick Costolo, Twitter’s CEO, doesn’t believe there exist alternatives to advertising, dismissing altogether the possibility of a subscription plan. Who many “pro” users and Twitter enthusiasts would be happy to pay.
