Changes to Twitter API

Michael Sippey:

With our new API guidelines, we’re trying to encourage activity in the upper-left, lower-left and lower right quadrants, and limit certain use cases that occupy the upper-right quadrant.

(See image for a better understanding.)

Translation:

With the new API we are forcing down on third-party developers, we’re trying to help partner businesses shove more ads into our customers’s1 faces, make more money thanks to the former, and limit the usability of the service to the latter.

  1. Customers vs products. We are the product sold to Twitter’s customers, the advertisers. ↩
