GoDaddy Acquires Media Temple

Note that I never had any server on Media Temple, but I’ve always regarded them as the holy grail of web hosts. All the great names of blogging use or have used Media Temple, so I’ve always thought they were cool.

On the other hand, I’ve had domains managed by GoDaddy, and it has been an absolute disaster. Add the relatively recent funky things its CEO has done, and it’s clear that GoDaddy is one giant thorn in the side of internet.

I don’t know what it means, and frankly I don’t care. Even though MT’s founders swear GoDaddy has changed, I’m not going to trust them anyway.

Let me quote one part of the announcement:

What about GoDaddy’s reputation in the tech community?

GoDaddy has been transformed in recent months and is essentially a new company. If we did not like what we have seen, we would not have joined the GoDaddy family. They have overhauled their leadership team and attracted tech talent from the best-of-the-best. We love “the new GoDaddy” that CEO Blake Irving and his team have created, especially their new approach with advertising, product focus and UX.

Emphasis mine. I’d not put advertising as something GoDaddy does greatly. Well, to be fair, it must works. But I find it hostile.
