This is the Nikon Df camera
Nikon will announce its new Df tomorrow, a full-frame DSLR that is set to compete with the Sony a7 and the Leica M9.
I’m not a fond of the general appearance of this camera — DSLRs now look way too big compared to mirrorless cameras like the new Fuji X-E2 — but the three main dials (i.e. shutter speed, exposure compensation and ISO) are exactly what I want from a camera. With the aperture ring on the lens, it’s the penultimate way to take photographs.
I have grown accustomed to endless DSLR menus, yet the more I’ve had to navigate those the more I wanted simpler, analog controls.
The Nikon Df is reportedly very expensive ($3,000 or more) so I’ll probably pass on it… But it’s a step in the right direction and I’m glad that camera makers are following it again.
